The view, the privacy and being close to Lauzerte
Interiors Magazine would like a word — and so, frankly, will you.
Some houses are country houses. This one is more of a small principality. A glorious 18th century stone property in the heart of South West France, comprising not so much a “house” as a hamlet — main house, guest gîte, garaging, barns and stores, all gathered at the end of a private lane with no near neighbours and, arguably, some of the best views in the region. We don’t say that lightly.
The style here is best described as French rustic charm meets Côte d’Azur polish — exposed stone, original beams and period character left exactly where they belong, paired with interiors decorated with a confidence and restraint that most Parisian apartments would envy. Nothing shouty. Just done properly.
Two bedrooms, each with a bathroom stylish enough to make you linger. A ground-floor kitchen — sleek, modern, and thoroughly unbothered by the 300-year-old fireplace and log burner it shares a wall with, which quietly heats the whole ground floor while you cook. A separate small stone-built guest room or superb home office sits just a few steps away, for when you need to escape the family, or pretend to work.
A second, two-bedroom gîte with its own bathroom — ideal for guests, ideally the paying kind. Above it, a vast covered terrace that we cannot, in good conscience, imagine a better spot for either al fresco dining or a competitive game of ping pong. Possibly both, depending on the wine.
Numerous further outbuildings — old barns, stores, garaging — all ready and willing to be converted should more space ever be required (it rarely is, but it’s nice to have options). And despite the splendid isolation, you’re less than five minutes from bakeries, shops, cafés and restaurants. The best of both worlds, as they say.
Step outside and the real magic begins: a large terrace overlooking the pool and sun terrace, with views across the surrounding countryside that can only fairly be described as breathtaking. We’ve tried other adjectives. None of them worked as well.
Much loved for decades as a family holiday home, this very special property presents a rare opportunity to complete its renovation and create an exceptional home for the future
Some houses need a buyer. This one needs a successor.
